Participating in the M.A.T.C.H mentoring session organised by CAWSTEM in February 2023 was undoubtedly a gratifying experience. The program's thoughtful structuring and the organisers' emphasis on real impact instead of mere optics struck a chord. They successfully facilitated my mentee's transition into a paid position with their sincere and dedicated approach.
Mentor (Nigeria 🇳🇬)
My main goal for the program was to gain a sense of direction on how bests to approach my pm journey and I've been able to achieve this. I learnt of some skills and knowledge that are required of me as a Product Manager and where/how to acqiure them. Another main thing is on tuning my mindset to become more positive. I have also gained more confidence in myself and I am now able to speak confidently about my career goals and aspirations.

From the moment I joined, I was impressed by the program's commitment to fostering meaningful connections and driving positive change in the STEM community. The matching process was thoughtful and thorough, ensuring that mentors and mentees were paired based on shared interests, goals, and expertise. My mentee and I clicked instantly, creating a dynamic partnership that has been both rewarding and enriching.
Mentor (Kenya 🇰🇪)
Firstly, the program has boosted my self-confidence and created a shift in my mindset and my self-esteem. Also, it has contributed greatly to my job application process and personal branding which is much needed in my career journey. Overall the mentorship has given me more clarity about my career roadmap as well as how I can own my personal growth while pursuing career fulfillment. From access to new and available opportunities in my chosen career path to guidance from a leading expert in the industry on the best way to go about it and resources to use. I am not trying to figure it out on my own because I am a part of this community.
Mentee (Nigeria 🇳🇬)
Because of the M.A.T.C.H program, I have had to introspect and ask myself difficult questions. I have learnt how to revamp my CV and cover letter. I have learnt about upskilling, I have become more confident in pursuing what I have interest in. I have found my ikigai. Working with my mentor was like having an elder sister guiding you. I learnt a lot from her.
Mentee (Kenya 🇰🇪)
Working with my mentor was the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. She's accommodating and rooted for me at any given opportunity. I’m grateful for every resource sent to me. I'm currently taking courses that will help me in my career growth. Thank you CAWSTEM and Mentor Hellen for making this dream a reality.
Mentee (Nigeria 🇳🇬)
Before the M.A.T.C.H program everything seemed unclear and overwhelming. Through this program, I've been able to connect with a community, buddy, and mentor in particular that has worked with me in putting together a personal development plan to build my Software Developer career that had both a goal and a time duration of when I want to achieve them, in addition of breaking these goals down to specificity. I've been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses, the steps to take to build and grow in my career eg: working on CV, Interviews, elevator pitch etc. This program has built my personal capacity. I'm more confident, vocal, as well as expressive.
